Just to make sure we're all on the same page with the light. The fixture takes screw-in bulbs (incandescent), so the best are what bigfish93 suggested. GE make a Compact fluorescent bulb called "Daylight" with a kelvin rating of 6500K. It is very good light both for plants and the fish colours. If you have a fixture with two bulb sockets, get 10w bulbs (they usually come in a package of two). If you only have one socket, a higher wattage would be best. But probably you have two, so 10w bulbs will be fine.

The Flourish Comprehensive Supplement is a good liquid fertilizer. If you can't get it, the Nutrafin Plant-Gro should work fairly well. I have not used this myself, I prefer Flourish Comprehensive, but from what others report the Plant-Gro seems to be fairly good. You really don't need substrate fertilizers, but they will help for the large sword. But it will grow with the liquid fer.

The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. [unknown source]

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]
