I currenty have two 10 gallon tanks running and I am planning on getting either a 20 or 25 gallon long. The idea is this:
Take all the gravel out of the old tank, all the plants, both AC 20 filters and the fish and transfer them in a matter of a couple hours into the larger tank. I know this is a lot of work toget done in a couple hours but shouldn't be too much of a problem. Both AC 20 will be used on the larger tank.
First: remove fish and place in a temporary 10 gallon after water changes in all 3 tanks to get temp and all parameters as close as possible. Second is to remove the water into buckets for adding back into the larger tank. All the plants would then be removed and placed in buckets to keep them happy. The next step is to move the 10 gallon tanks and put the 20 where they were. The I add the gravel from the other tanks and fill with the old/recently changed water. The I add the plants in a general arrangement and put the fish back in.
The fish will be drip acclimated in both moves.
Here are the big questions:
Can I expect a minor cycle or should the combination of all the plants, the seeded filters and the gravel prevent it?
Should the fish be ok being acclimated twice in a matter of 2-3 hours?
(Swords, BN pleco, neon tetras, otos, cories and skunk botia loaches)
Is there any other worries to consider in the move?
Thanks in advance and think about it as this won't happen til next year and probably not until Feb.
