PH Levels stay at 8

Alright, I've had two aquariums set up for almost a month. The PH is staying right around 8.

One tank is fishless. The other has 10 Flame Tetras, 10 Guppies, 2 blue gouramis, and 32 ghost shrimp.

I just added the guppies and 5 plants.
Will the plants help lower my PH? Is this PH really bad for the guppies (it doesn't seem to bother the other two).

What is recommended to lower the ph?

I do almost daily test. For the most part the test stay the same.

8 should be just fine. The guppies should actually prefer the higher pH as most live bearers do. The shrimp should also appreciate it. As for the tetras and gouramis, I am not sure but they should adapt just fine to it. I actually have to add crushed coral to get my pH above 7.4 for my snails and swords to thrive.

As for ways to lower the pH, bogwood or driftwood is the prefered method from what I have seen. The ones that relase the most tanins seem to be the best for lowering the pH but I am not sure of the names of them.

I wouldn't mess with unless you find that the gouramis or tetras are having a difficult time with it.

I'm glad you think I shouldn't mess with the PH.
I was only a little concerned about it because I had to use the "High PH" card to measure it with my test kit.

If my fish don't care, I don't either!
The fish you said might not like it are doing fine.

WOAH! Thats so awesome! 32 ghost shrimp!?!? Will they breed like crazy or are they like the anamo shrimp? Ha, I bet that would look so cool, the tank floor like crawling with little bittle shrimp :D

And just before you laid dead weight upon its shores, I stung you in the face for that's the nature of my core.

Actaully they generally stay hidden. And when they are out I can't see them for crap. :) I plan to have a shrimp per gallon.

Yeah your right, now that I'm thinking about it, I can hardly see my shrimp. Ghost shrimp are damn impossible to see. There was a tank at the lfs that read 5 ghost shrimp for two bucks so I was like "Sweet shrimp" And I spent like ten minutes looking for the shrimp. They really are ghosts.

And just before you laid dead weight upon its shores, I stung you in the face for that's the nature of my core.

It's even harder to take a picture of the little ghost. You have to aim the camera where you know they are at.. And hope for the best :P
