So my local petco is having a clearence sale and one thing they have is a 55g aquarium, it comes with "everything needed" except for a stand, decor (ot has like fake plants I think that are really small), and fish . It does have the filter, heater, hood w/ 2 T5 lighting, and a bunch of other little goodies. All for $155. Is this a good deal. Well I kinda know it is Im just looking for a reason not to buy or for someone to give me that last little push. i dont know what I would keep, and it would have to stay in my basement since I have no room up here, but ITS A 55G!!! Right now I just have 2 10g and an empty 20g.

Im also finding it difficult to convince myself to stock my 20g, if I do I need to buy the heater/filter/everything else. That would run me $25+ for the heater $35+ for the filter and god knows how much for the hood/lighting but probably upwards of $50. When Petco is running a 20g setup the same as that one ^^ except I think it just has on t5 light, for just $69. It would be cheaper just to buy the whole new tank, but then I would feel the need to fill the empty tank again. This thought makes me feel as though Id rather not buy either. Yes, Im actually complaining about cheapness of the tank and having an extra tank. But I guess the main reason I want to do a tank is to fill the $100 20g in my room, but then if I just get a new one I will kinda be back where I started.

everything that's in those packages is sooo cheap it's not even funny. Basic filter, basic heater, what else is in there? If I would have a certain budget of let's say 200 I would 100% consider this package for 155... otherwise I would spend more and get better equipment by buying all this stuff separately. But on the other hand... get 55 gal tank for around 70 than it leaves us with another 80.. .. so we get penguin power filter for around 45 and heater for like 25 and we still have like 10 $ towards lights or whatever. So.. sell your small tanks and get big tank.

NO WAY!! I am thinking of getting that same exact one at my petco!!!! I am now convinced i am going to get it!!!! I am upgrading from my 20 gallon tank to that 55 gallon tank, hold on lets make sure its the same one, does it say like deluxe or premium and its sold by aqueon or something?

P.S. If someone could answer my other thread about this same thing but its a question about moving my fish from the 20 gallon tank to the new tank. Remember I havent bought it yet.

BUT TRUST ME I WILL SOOON!! :)

I doubt I will actually get it because my parents will flip if I throw own $200 on fishies. Im also running out of stuff to sell, and well Im not getting a job :) Maybe I can get my mom to throw in some cash. Or I could get my dad to pay if I tell him Ill throw a bluegill in it

Personally I would never buy it. Get a used one off craigslist. The stuff the tank comes with is really cheap IMO. A HOB filter, personally I hate those and run a canister on a 55gal or anything bigger. Also a standard 55gal the lighting is T8, the bulbs are 15 or 18 watts I believe. Decent lights I have some that are over 5 years old.... over priced though.

My first setup came form petsmart. I'm glad my dad bought everything for me....... I hindsight it was waayy to expensive. I rarely visit petsmart anymore, since they got rid of there price matching. They don't advertise it, but they use to match ANY other price even online prices. I could get so much stuff from them for cheap. It was easy to knock $60+ dollars off one of there canister filters. I also have a 5 years supply of micro pellets because I needed to use up some gift cards. They wanted $7 per packet, I bought 5 packets for about $13. ;-)

Then they stopped:|, so I get most the things I need online or off craigslist.

It's not a great deal. Sure you get a lot of the stuff you need but its all bottom shelf stuff. Nothing in it is terribly high quality and you'll likely wind up replacing a good deal of it sooner rather than later. Craigslist I can't recommend enough, and if you're looking for a 55 gallon with stand, hood, and lights in the Orlando area...

DUDE, WHAT R U WAITING FOR, IF U CAN GET THE MONEY BUY IT!!!!!! I SAW THAT SAME ONE AT MY PETCO AND I WANTED IT SO BAD, BUT I DIDNT HAVE ENOUGH MONEY....... AND NOW THE SALE IS OFF BUT ITS STILL AT THE LOW PRICE OF $200.

And to Mikaila: Buying a tank off of Craiglist is a disaster waiting to happen. You dont know if they made a mistake and washed it with soap, then they put water and fish in it, they all died because of the soap and now they are trying to sell it to buy a new one. Then if you buy it your stuck with a tank that kills fish, or it could have the neon tetra disease (which is just spontaneously in some tanks that doesnt allow you to have neon tetras), anyway there is just so much stuff that could happen or has happened that the owners know and the buyer doesnt know which could make the tank great or can make the tank horrible. So whether its a good deal or not, its a better idea to go spend the extra $50 bucks or so and buy a brand new, fresh tank.

I dont mean it in a bad way, I just dont want the guy to miss out on an awesome buy, and I want to warn you for future purchases.

I think its safe to say that there are a lot of people who would disagree with you about buying used tanks. Quite a few of us here have bought tanks used, in many cases more than one, and have had no issue with them.

Soap being used on a tank is not the end of the tank. Yes, it will require some extra cleaning but it doesn't permanently ruin a tank. Even things like copper and such aren't permanent ends to a tank but they are things to be aware of and decide if you feel like risking it or expending the extra effort.

Also, neon tetra disease doesn't just spontaneously happen. It's a parasitic infection. If a tank has dried out the parasites will have died. NTD, which is far rarer than people think, is typically passed on through non-quarantined stocks. It's not magic.

I dont mean it in a bad way, I just dont want the guy to miss out on an awesome buy, and I want to warn you for future purchases.
I don't want him to go spend a good wad of cash on something that's not really that great of a buy.

I agree with Tyy here.......Craiglist is a great way to build a tank collection....no need to spend over $200 on something which you will want to buy better products anyways....

check out your craigslist items in your area. you'll thank yourself later on....

I bought my 55 gal. tank at Walmart for the low price of $125. It had everything. upgraded the filter after reading that you should get a biggger filter to fit a biggger tank. I never opened the filter and sold that on craigslist for $20 brand new. I bought a bio/ canister filter from drsfostersmith for $33 it was for a 75 gal. tank. I have had no problems with my tank. The price of the tank might be abit more then what I paid because I have had it for awhile. It's a glass tank. Craigslist does have good bargains out their. I recently bought a 10 gal. with a 20 gal, fiilter, lighting, hood and stand for $25. I' am going to turn this into a Paludarium tank as a project with my husband. I would fix up that 20 gal. you already have before buying another tank that's bigger. What's wrong with your unused 20 gal. anyways? Don't jump into a bigger tank when you have a nice unused 20 gal. that has alot of possabilities.
