Persistant ammonia (9 months). I've tried everything.

This is a discussion on Persistant ammonia (9 months). I've tried everything. within the Beginner Freshwater Aquarium forums, part of the Freshwater Fish and Aquariums category; --> As Maracyn is antibacterial, it could affect bacteria. Over the month, has the fin been further reduced? Or is it simply missing a piece?...

It looks like the fins have been further reduced, mostly on the tail fin and pelvic fins. There are also little "bubbles" along the ragged edge of the tail fin, that look like delicate cysts or fluid-filled sacs. I'll try to attach a picture.
Should I put him in a separate, small tank to treat him? I don't have a separate treatment tank, so I'd have to get one, and I've never set anything like that up before, so I'm not sure what are the rights/wrongs in doing so.

I will leave it for the members with more experience in these issues to suggest options.
