So out of all the fish in my signature I will be putting the 2 cory cats in with the 55 once they are deemed clear of any diseases. I had to get ride of my 2 crabs because they tried to escape the other day and my wife got freaked out. The LFS gave me 2 cory's for them from their assorted cory tank. I will post pics later to help i.d. them. My question would be, if I got 3-5 more cory's and put the whole school of cory's into the 55 gallon would I be overstocked? I currently just have the shark that patrols the bottom of the tank, would he care about the cory's? Sometimes the neon tetra's chill low but most of the current stock seem to stay mid to high in the tank.
What species is the pleco?
How about rainbows?
Any pics of them if not identified?
I'd keep 5 cories minimum. Which species of cories did you get? Be careful though as the shark gets aggressive so your cories may be unable to bear the beating if it does happen. Have a backup tank in case it happens. There's still plenty of space in the 55g.
From looking at the profiles, I would say the Pleco is just a Common Pleco. The rainbows all look the same as this guy or gal....I am not good at recognizing gender yet.
I know the pleco is going to get a little big but I have worked deals in the past with my LFS and hopefully I can get some Ottos for him or other algae eaters when the time comes.
I'm not familiar with that particular rainbow but knowing them from their appearance, I'd surmise the size ranges 3-5 inches. I think you're fine with 3.
I just noticed you mentioned the albino frog in your signature. Is this African clawed frog? They can eat your fish so please separate yours already before your fish start disappearing. Only African clawed frogs are sold as albinos if I am not mistaken. I have yet to see African dwarf frogs sold in albino variant.
Switch your pleco now. You have a lot of choices to replace it. Bristlenose plecos, otocinclus, clown plecos, L010a, Sturisoma panamense, Rineloricaria parva, etc. These will work perfectly well in your 55g. I am biased though as I have experience with most of them and find them adorable.
