Talking Once a lurker, now a joiner

Hi, I'm new here, been lurking for about a week. I've had my 50gal set up for about 2 mths with the fish below. Had some casualties along the way but I've been learning a lot here.

In 50 Gal:
1 Gourami
4 mollies
6 tetras
4 platty
4 danio
2 catfish
5 Guppies

I also have 2 x 10 gal tanks I'm using for fry. One houses some dalmation molliies and the other guppies.

Earlier this week I bought some painted tetras and balloon mollies. Afterwards I found out that their "man-made", feeling kinda guilty now for supporting my LPS in this practice. Especially what they do to the painted tetras, poor things. Can't believe people would actually inject them with needles! I guess it pays to do your research before hand. I think the LPS has lost my business though.

Anyways, good to join the group. Looking forward to learning some more helpful tips.

Welcome!

if you want fun-colored humane fish, glofish (neon colored danios) are genetically modified, so it is a painless method. i heard they are more sensitive than the regular Zebra Danio, but not nearly like the painted or dyed fish.

**I freely admit that most of the information I share I have learned from other people on this forum and am simply repeating. I thank you for sharing your knowledge and ask that if I say anything incorrect someone will kindly correct me**

Welcome to Tropical Fish Keeping forum.

It is a good step to not patronize that fish store, but please let them know why. A letter or email to the owner, explaining that responsible aquarists oppose the artificial colouring of fish and do not support stores who carry them.

Europe bans some of these types of fish outright. It is an important issue.

The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. [unknown source]

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]

You're right, otherwise how else would they learn? I think I'll be writing them a letter.
Thanks
