OMG! In my many years of having aquariums I never thought this would happen! Last night at 2 am the back of my 110 gallon aquarium busted out and all the water and fish went all over my apartment! The way it busted you can tell it gave way right in the middle of the glass from the pressure right in the center. Since it was a tall tank the glass was almost square so it broke right in the center down to the two bottom corners. The crack goes from the right bottom corner makes a perfect arch up the the center of the glass and archs again to the bottom left corner. I have no idea what I am supposed to do. This is obviously a break due to the aquarium failing. So I am now wondering if I should hold All Glass responsible for replacing it or the pet store. I already clled the pet store and waiting for a phone call. But now I need to go get a steam cleaner to suck up the rest of this water!

This is terrible! A two week old brand new tank?? Certainly All Glass is responsible and your pet store should help you out as far as getting a replacement quickly. One or the other need to step up. In addition to the replacement of the tank what about the fish cost (and susequent loss) and carpet cleaning cost? I'd get those receipts together and prepare to write a nice forceful letter* on why you should receive complete compensation for all expenses incurred. What a shame this happened!

* I'll be happy to write this letter for you!

Wowza! So sorry this happened to you.
Definitely try to take some pictures. Do you know if All Glass gave you some sort of warranty?
I have a carpet cleaner that is really good at sucking up water and it has been a life saver with some of the spills I have made during water changes.

Good Luck :)

I might have to take you up on writing that letter because if I write it, it is going to contain a few choice words and I dont think that will help! I just took some pictures Ill post them as soon as I figure out how. I am waiting on my BF to bring back a steam cleaner.

from those pictures it looks like that log is up against the glass, but it isnt. It sits about 2 inches from the glass. There was nothing pressing up against the glas to cause a pressure point.

Oh man that is awful. Do you have homeowners or renters insurance? It may help cover some of the expense. ( I am an insurance agent but do not know the claims side of the business)

wow that sucks major who would of thought a tank that you just bought woulda failed so quickly. . . i agree with AK keep all the recipts and take lots of pictures, this isnt entirely the petstores fault but they should def be able to contact their wholesaler who gave them that. wow that really really sucks......... sorry

I have been on the phone with All Glass I Emailed them the pictures so now its the waiting game. The neighbors downstairs has damage to their ceiling from the water. I dont know what is going to happen now! I do know before I set up another one I am moving to a ground floor! The professional carpet cleaners are coming out because of how wet the carpet is they will be able to get out more water than I will be able to.

Yikes, what a mess. It certainly looks as if this was a faulty piece of glass. It appears your tank is sitting on a solid base stand. Was the stand sold to you with the tank??
Amanda has a point in regards to homeowners or renters insurance covering costs when it comes to flooding. It would all depend upon how the policy is written. Are you renting, as are your neighbors?
What a mess...:-(

I don't know what to say other than good luck...

Well, it's good the stand was sold with the tank so there won't be any, "You didn't place the tank on an appropriate stand" nonsense. I don't know what to say about the sticker but you do have a receipt that states you purchased the tank from a retailer. Ask the retailer for some help on this maybe?

It's been a very long time since I rented but if I'm not mistaken the building will carry insurance to cover the costs of repairing flood damage. Of course, the owner will try to recoup his loss by finding you liable for repairs but then that should be deferred to All Glass. What a mess. I'm off to google some info for you.

uhm jsut thought of this while i was at work today.... i remember back when my wife and i were renting and we were thinking of buying a waterbed since they were on a steal of a price. so my wife being the sensiable responsible thinker that she is checked our lease agreement and in it it styated that under no circumstances were there to be any aquariums that held more than 10 gallons of water and absolutely no waterbeds. and in the instance that a problem arose from either of them that we were responseable for all the damages. i might check that agreement before i went to the land manager. thought id share my insights with you. Just a thought - the reciept should have a SKU number which is normally relative to the serial number. If it isn't the seller should have that on record and can provide to you based on the SKU.

My receipt has no SKU number on it. It just says 110 gallon aquarium. I still havnt received a call from the owner of the pet store either. I think they are going to try to give me a hard time. I have called them and left messages for him. I also asked them to find the seriel number for me to no avail. I even let them know that I dont want to hold them accountable but if they cant find the seriel number All Glass can not ID the tank as an All Glass tank which means the pet store will be liable.

sounds like a tough road ahead, be prepaired to be very confrontational if you dont get anywhere by the end of the week. seems the lps owner isnt too worried about this issue and that he thinks he can stay away from it. be presistant and stop in that pet store everyday so that you might catch him there. also ask when he is usually in the store, as a owner im sure he is there atleast once a week or so.
