I guess I forgot to mention: I'm not against using carbon completely, I just don't run it regularly in my tanks. I absolutely keep a big jug of it on hand, mainly for medication removal. It's also very good at removing tannins, but personally I like the blackwater look so I save mine for medication removal only.
