Ive been cycling my ten gallon tank for about two months now. I have been checking my water parameters every other day waiting for nitrites to show up. They never showed up. My water parameters are Ammonia 1 Nitrites 0 Nitrates 0 and ph is 8. I am cycling with three danios and filter in whisper internal 20. Thanks Max
I have probably been doing 10% once a week. I use Api matser test kit. I am starting to become impatient because I thought cycling took one month but I guess I was wrong thanks Max
Have you changed or cleaned the filter? this is where the majority of bacteria (the good kind) that breaks down the ammonia and renders nitrites is found. Have you been vaccuming the bottom of the tank? this too is an area that bacteria develops in or on. Best not to disturb these areas until tank has matured or cycled. If filter becomes clogged you may swish it around in old aquarium water and stick it back in. Bacteria grows on everything in the tank. Decorations , gravel, wood, glass, plants either real or artificial. If one cleans these areas then bacteria cannot grow as well as it can if left alone. You can always clean these areas later. I believe you are on the right track for you don't mention any dead fish. Don't add ANY chemicals to your water other than dechlorinator. But then you know that don't you?
Thanks for the reply. I did change the filter in the first week, but that was still 7 weeks ago. I havent done a gravel vac because I was afraid to ruin the bacteria bed. I have taken this time to research a LOT, and I can almost consider myself a nonnoob . I am proud that I havent killed one of my fish although they are zebra danios, probably the most hardy of all.
If you want to try and speed up the cycle process, try and get some mature media from another tank in the form of either gravel/ornaments or filter floss/sponges. Just make sure that the tank you get the media from is healthy without any illnesses in it.
Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll just have to wait it out
