Hi everybody, my first post here, so first of all, I wanted to introduce myself.
I decided to get an aquarium few weeks ago, and after many days of research, etc., settled on a 29 gallon, Penguin 200 filter, 200 Watt heater (not top fin, but forgot what brand), one decoration, and about 10 plastic plants, with small gravel.
After having the tank running without fish for a week or so, last Thursday I added 5 platies - three Mickey Mouse and two red something...
Anyway, I have 3 questions:
1. My kitchen sink is close enough that I could use a hose to do the water changes. However, how do I regulate the temperature? I've read that using hot water from the faucet is bad because there is a lot of crap in the hot water heater. But using just cold water seems way too cold. So, what is the accepted solution?
2. My water got a little milky in the tank without fish. I changed the water completely, then let the new water sit 2 days before introducing the platies. Well, it got cloudy again. I did two 15% water changes since Thursday, and the water did get a little better, but does anybody have any idea why would the water get cloudy without fish or plants?
