Hey everyone. I'm very new to all of this! I got my son three fish for his birthday and I didn't realise just how complicated goldfish are to look after!!
Anywayz, I have searched and read loads on the forum and I have learned loads.....my sons birthday presents have triggered a real interest!
I am trying to do my best with cycling the tank. I have been changing the water 50% everyday and its all been going ok until today. I am geting a high reading for ammonia and now I'm panicing!! Do I need to change all of the water asap? If I do this wont it wreck the cycle? I'm only 4 days into starting the cycle so are these readings normal??
I just dont wanna kill the fishes!
I have been using a gravel pump when doing the water changes to try and get some of the poop out of the tank and I've also been adding some of the live bacteria formula to try and get things going!
Despite todays high ammonia reading the fish are looking really healthy. Before I found out that I needed to do all of these water changes etc the fish really were not well (and I feel awful for it!) All of their fins were tucked away and they were hardly moving. They look wonderful now tho :D I wish that the person at the pet store had told me just how much is involved in looking after them, then I would have gone about it all in a much better way!
Any advice would be greatly apprecitaed as I'm having a bit of a panic!
