Was given a tank about a month ago, measures 2' x 1.5' x 1' (65 litre?)
Camw with a fluval 2 filter, an undergravel filter (powered by a Rena Air 200) and a light. I bought a heater and ran it for a week with nothing in.
We added some plants (species advised by local aquatics place as being suitable) and added some fish
5 five banded barbs and 3 dwarf gourami. the following week we added 5 assorted guppies and 3 trilineatus corydoras and 5 assorted guppies.
3 weeks later and the water is smelling a bit, it's pretty clear though (slight greenish tinge but not much). I've read another thread on the same problem there.
Went to take a water sample to my local aquarium place (Maidenhead Aquatics) but unfortunately they couldn't test the water on a weekend so I don't know what the levels are (need to buy a few kits)
The fish look happy and are active enough but found a guppy at the bottom this morning with no visible signs of damage/disease etc.
I've just done a partial water change and added a dose of KB safe guard and safe water.
I can't say I'm 'up' on keeping tropical fish (had coldwater tank fish years ago) as all I knew was pond fish when I ran an aquatics department donkies years ago.
Irony is I bought my fish from the same place I worked at when it was part of the then garden centre (Challis of York - since changed hands a few times) .
Anyways, any advice would be welcome - I don't have a lot of time to search through lots of posts due to kids craving attention all the time lol
