new tank set-up fish compatible

Hi all

resonable new to tropical tank keeping only ever kept small fish and usually the same types mostly live bearers.

I have a 190 litre 3.5ft bow front aquarium
2x 600 hang on back filters
using sand substrate and will be plastic plants and some slate ornaments + some bogwood

now what i wanted to know is weather the following fish would be compatible in the tank.

10 cherry barbs
2 dwarf gourami
1 firemouth cichlid
2 rams
2 bristle nose catfish
2 thai crab

my main worries are the firemouth and the thai crab being in there also if there will be enough bottom feeders and algae eaters really what i want is a tank of colourful fish any advice would be helpful i have researched the fish and would think they could work together but better asking people who know.

also i have a large conch shell and I understand about the possible PH changes to the tank would it also be a hazard with fish actually getting stuck in it?

Welcome to Tropical Fish Keeping forum.

Before I comment specifically, I'll mention our fish profiles section under the second tab from the left in the blue bar across the top of the page. All the fish you mention are in the profiles; if the name is identical to that in the profile it will shade, as you see some did, and you can click that link to the profile. But these fish are all there.

There are several issues with the combination. I don 't like to repeat what is in the profiles (I wrote most of them), but briefly small fish are not advisable with Firemouth. Gourami and cichlids are a bad mix always. I can't comment on the crab, no experience there, so will leave it for others to say if this is a problem.

Further info is in the respective profiles. You will find there are some other issues with filtration, plants, etc. for some of these. But feel free to ask specific questions.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]
