Smile New Tank - Decorations for F8's?

Hi friends, I have just upgraded to a nice big 40g tank for my little F8's and am looking for some good ideas on decorating it. At the moment they have a pretend fungus tree stump that they hide and sleep in on the left, loads of real and fake plants in the middle to look about in for food, snails etc and to help break up the eye line incase they feel aggressive (thankfully never have done so far) and on the right hand side a cave. They are on a whitish sand substrate.

Obviuosly the new tank is going to have a lot more room, so I'm going to buy some more decorations for it, what do you recommend? I was thinking a piece of driftwood with Java's planted on it, with the other plants around it to create a weed/planted area in the middle but what else do you think? I want to make it as interesting and stimulating as possible for them.

Thanks in advance x

I am just curious what kind of water you are going to keep the puffer in. I have heard several examples of conflicting reports as far as to wheater or not F8P are actually freshwater or brackish. I am wondering what kind of water you plan to keep him in now and as in adult. That would help determine what decor, I think, especially as far as plants.

Honestly, I don't really know how much it matters, or if relatively it matters at all. I know several examples of people successfully keeping this species of fish in both water types. I am asking this question mainly for decor options, and a tad of curiosidy.

I assume you are doing a freshwater setup (just because you haven't said anything about brackish, and the fact that some FW plants can be used in Brackish is somewhat little known)?

(btw, I think Java Fern is also a brackish species if it is slowly brought up to brackish)

Good luck with the tank!

Hi yes it is brackish (S.G. 1.006) and I've brought the Java Ferns up to brackish slowly and they're doing great (fingers crossed!!!!!) even producing baby plants I am however having terrible problems locating any other types of brackish plants, saw some on Ebay but they were from Malaysia so didn't bother with them.

I've done loads of research on my F8's and they will tolerate freshwater set ups but thrive in brackish water so that's what my little lovely's have!

As far as decor goes they've got the same in their new tank at the moment but would like something new and interesting as the tank is somewhat taller and it now looks weird as everything is at the bottom of the tank.
