I have recently acquired a forty gallon long. :3 (It came with some stuff and a stand, no light though. XP) (Paid forty bucks for it, which is all I had on me. XD)
What's best for giving it a really thorough clean? Normally I'd use vinegar but one of the items that came with it was a sponge. I don't know if it was used in the tank or not and I remember a horror story a friend told me of her tank. D:
So should I go for a bleach treatment? If so, what is the best way to do it?
The sealing looks a bit old so I'll be adding new sealing onto it. XP
As for stocking, for awhile I'll have my two goldfish in it. I won't be able to buy the massive tank I wanted for a few months because a family tragedy is forcing us to move and that'll be a NASTY tank to move (my 75 gall is going to be hard enough @_@).
Anyways, until I have the giant (125 gal+, depending on new house room) tank I desire the two will stay in it (right now they are in my 20 and need the room).
Afterwards I want to stock it with fish who won't get along with my current fish (I'm keeping the 40 gallon with my mom and the others with me and my dad; I have two houses basically and weekly visits will be enough to maintain water conditions).
I know for sure I want Tiger Barbs. Lots and lots of tiger barbs. XD
I also love Electric Yellow Cichlids and Rainbow Sharks. Since the tank is four feet long (the same length as the recommended 55 gal), will an Electric Yellow Cichlid work out with the shark and barbs?
Also, how many barbs would fit int he tank? (I absolutely love all the colors they come in and will definitely play around with how many of which color)
This won't happen for awhile but I still want to plan it. :3
