New Tank

Hey guys!
I picked up another 55 gallon off Craigslist with stand, an Aquaclear 500 filter (now called AC110), heater, gravel and lots of misc stuff (including a nice big piece of lava rock) for $50. I've really been wanting a 75 gallon but they just never show up on Craigslist around here for some reason. Always tons of 55's though. And when I saw this for $50 I jumped on it. It's really dirty though and is going to take lots of elbow grease to clean up. But the glass has no cracks or scratches and the seals looked good. I'm excited to have a new tank to work on. This one will be going in the bedroom once I rearrange and make room for it. Here's a pic of it as it sits in my garage.

What a fun project! I'm jealous
Do you already have a stocking plan in mind??

If you don't stand up for something you'll fall for anything...

Hey guys,
it's been awhile but I finally got my bedroom painted and got this puppy out of the garage. It was so sad to see it sitting there for so long. Anyway, I set it up today. The Aquaclear is really noisy. It has a rattle. I'm going to have to maybe try getting a new impeller. Hopefully that will quiet it down. Other than that it works like a champ. I'm planning on eventually adding a Penguin 350 to the other side. I'll top off the tank once I'm done tweaking the aquascape. Here's some pics. I also added a pic of my Firemouth who's waiting in QT for this tank to be ready. I would love to hear any comments and suggestions.

Love the Firemouth. :) You are sticking with primarily CA stuff with this tank, right? What is your potential stocking list?

Should be interesting to see how this tank shapes up. Good luck!

Looked back and saw your list. Love salvinis but they tend to spend a majority of their time hiding. Are you concerned about the Dempsey picking on the firemouth? Have you considered convicts? Rainbows would be a nice compliment to the firemouth but they stay too small to stay long term with JDs.

BTW... I still can't get over the steal you got on the tank. :) Good job.

Yeah, I'm hoping with lots of hiding spots (I've got more wood and rocks I can add) the Firemouth will do ok with the JD. I will also be getting a school of dither fish (maybe tiger barbs) to redirect the aggression hopefully. The plan was to buy all 3 at a small size and introduce them to the tank all at once. Of course, then I went and bought this Firemouth. He had such great colors I couldn't resist. I think I'm going to have to put the JD and Sal straight into the 55 at the same time I move my Firemouth from the QT. Kind of against my rule of QTing for 2-3 weeks but there's no way all 3 will fit in a 10 gallon QT at the same time.
