new guy : )

hello fishie lovers! i just bought a big aquarium from my friend. he said it was a 55 gal. but i believe it is a 40. i have it up and running with several plants and 5 fishies. this all started because of the 2 fish me and my wife found on the ground at the fair. one goldfish and the other looks like a minnow. i was at the pet store looking and researching and bought a small silver dollar fish on sale for a dollar. then me and my wife were looking a few days ago and she liked these other fish so we bought 2. i think they are sunrise mollys.... not sure on the name. i need to study and learn the name of all these plants and fish. i had a tank when i was young but that was a while back now. im really enjoying the hobby and learning alot so please be kind im sure i will have alot of newby questions. thanks!

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Pics would be helpful for identification.

Animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.

Hi, and welcome to Tropical Fish Keeping forum.

Be careful about buying random fish, many have grief down the road when they do not research the fish first; not all fish will work in the same aquarium. For example, you have plants, and a silver dollar will eat them so this is not a good fish for a planted aquarium.

We have fish profiles here, second tab from the left in the blue bar at the top, or you can click on the shaded name of fish or plants in posts.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]
