new fish tank (vid), idea's of what to put in here?

hi guys, =D i am hassan

i just set up a new tank ^_^, its been up for about a month now and i think cycling is complete. i have one tiger barb in the tank at the moment (the others didn't make it through the cycling :( ) and not sure what to put inside.

i am not sure how big the tank is, after my parents gave up on their fish keeping attempt four years ago they gave this to me =D, and yea now i am having a stab at it lol. I don't have any real plants in there, two pieces of drift wood. Runing two filters, aqua clear 300 and aqua clear 20. And lighting is 1 tube of 30w aquaglow light.

i was thinking of getting...around 10 more tiger barbs to form a nice school, and maybe like 4 gouramis? any suggestions of what i could put in here?

I would recommend getting a testkit if you don't have one to confirm the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels.

Also, What are the dimensions of the tank? Should be able to determine the volume.

Forgive my manners. Welcome to the forums. :)

Welcome.

I wouldn't recommend mixing tiger barbs with long-finned species especially gouramis and other anabantid members. All are susceptible to being nipped by the tiger barbs. Keeping tiger barbs pretty much limits your choices. A lot of fish get bullied to death if they can't defend themselves very well from constant bullying and nipping.

Good luck.:)

the tank measures 36x18x12

yea i got test kits and tested the parameters, everything seems to be in check.

the one barb in there likes to chew away at the drift wood, is that normal? @_@ i do'nt want any more fatalities.

Sounds like you have a 30 gallon.

As for the gouramis, like Blue said, I'd avoid them with the tiger barbs. How about Kribs?

Gouramis in large numbers don't always work out either...keep in mind the gourami's you buy at stores are males...the females lack color and don't sell, so most fish stores don't carry them, most can't even special order them. The males tend to be a bit nippy with eachother, in my experience.

Some tiger barbs can be nippy, and the smaller the school the more nippy they are. it seems in a school of 20+ they are so busy nipping and bickering with eachother they generally leave the other tankmates alone.

I had a small school of 8 tiger barbs in a 29 gallon...they even nipped at my corys...small school and small tank is a bad idea from my experience.

One of the fellow mods also has the same experience as yours.;) And I also have that before.

There's nothing wrong with it. It may be just plucking algae growing on it. Some barbs do eat algae.:)
