New in Fish keeping.. Got 1 gallon bowl.. please help

Hi All,

I am new to fish keeping and got gallon fish tank as birthday gift. I really wanna keep atleast goldfish in there...
1. Where is the best place to get goldfish?
2. Which type of goldfish I should go for as beginner?
3. What food I should purchase? And how I should feed him?
4.How many water changes should be done per week?
6.While changing water, do I need to take out fish?
7. Should I change all water at a time?

You help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot,

-W

1 gallon bowl is WAY to small for a gold fish, and will be quickly out grown.
Gold fish also produce a lot of waste, so a bowl is not the best enviroment for a it.

I believe I would get one of the Beta fish and put in it. Like Guppy Girl said, it is too small for goldfish.

You can put maybe a couple of endler males in that tiny tank. They are smaller then guppies and do good for a beginner. Any other livebearer will outgrow that tiny tank and do not get a pair male/female as they will have to many babies and the tank is to small. You can also try some Ghost shrimps. They are inexpensive and you can find them at Walmart when they have them for 33 cents each. Petco and Petsmart also sell them cheap. The 2 endler males or a trio of Ghost shrimp will need about 20% of the water changed a week. Remember that these fish are tropical and will need a heater if the water temps goes below 70 degrees. I'm not sure if those mini heaters will be ok in a tiny 1 gal. tank. They make them for 2- 2 1/2 gal. tanks. Walmart has one for 2-5 gal but not for 1 gal. Maybe you could use that tiny tank for a hospital or holding tank for new fish and get a 2 -3 gal tank. a 2 1/2 - 3 gal. you can have about 3 male endlers. The betta is a perfect fish for that tiny tank. You can get one at any pet store even walmart sells them and all the food and suppies for them. I hope your tank has an underground filter. My daughter had one once and the tiny hang on filter sucked up its fins and it died. They do not like alot of water movement. Good luck let us know what you decide on getting.

Hi, yes bettas are easy to care for. Dechlorinater, a plant and food is pretty much all you need. Does this 1 gal have a filter of some sorts?

I'd say any kind but Plakats, those are good swimmers because they have shorter fins so they wouldn't be as happy as long-finned bettas in a 1 gallon.
