new creatures

ok as some of you know one of my guppies died of old age a few days ago. so i went to the lfs and got another one. well i also wanted an invert for my 5 gallon(2 female bettas) without even thinking about it i bought 2 japineese alge eating shrimps. iv got them home now in my 5 gallon and they love it. im wondering if they will get 2 big for this 5 gallon. the bettas go and watch them and the shrimps back away, but iv never seen the bettas pick on them.also i was actually planning on putting 1 shrimp in the 5 gallon and one in my 10,but they like eachother soo much so i put them in my 5 gallon.however the 10 is available to move them into. i also found out that one of my little guppies has dropsy so hes in the quarintine tank right now.i hate it when fish get sick.truthfully i dont think the poor little guppy will live. aanyways, just these questions,1 should i put 1 shrimp in another tank or will the 2 be ok.2 how big do japineese alge eating shrimps get? and 3 should i always keep my quarintine tank up and running? just in case i get a sick fish.

I assume these are Amano Shrimp, pretty clear with brownish spots along their sides. They get up to 2 inches and should not be a problem with only 2 in the 5gal. They do prefer to be in large groups, however. They are great fun to watch when there are a lot of them as they are much more active. I always have my quarantine tank running, this way it is always cycled. You may want to get a couple danios or something to always keep in the quarantine tank, for bioload.

I keep my hospital tank cycled by keeping a snail, which is so easy to care for.
