Have you thought about south American cichlids rather than Africans? They might do better if your tap is ascidic to neutral- mines neutral. What ph is your water?

In gen they are more easy going in temperment and you could keep some real intresting species in a tank like that. Keyholes, sveriums, Angels, ( Urus- they might get too large). discus, jack dumpsteys, rams, - Note these fish are choices NOT compattable tank mates, rams are small and like peaceful cichlids/fish tankmatyes while a jack dumpsety would do better with more tough fish.. I highly recomend wet web media, email them about your tank livestock questions.

Scratching my head

So here I am thinking FINALLY! when I tested my water on 05/04/2013 and the ammonia was 3.0 and nitrites finally appeared (.25ppm). So I tested the water again today (05/05/2013) prior to starting a water change, and the ammonia was 6.0ppm with 0ppm nitrites. How did this happen? is it possible to get false nitrite readings?
