New to angelfish please give advice.

I have a 20 gallon tank home to a single juvenile marble angelfish named Marbelloh perchiced saterday at Aqualand. Right now Hes about an inch or two long and tall. Filtration is a sponge filter made for 80 gallons of water. . Ph is neutral. Amonia zero nitrite zero. temp is 82, The tank has small driftwood peaces but no fake plants I'l get those when I get paid this friday. I do water changes once a week on whensdays 50% or more.

(The tank has been up sense march and used to be home to 7 zebra danios)

My question is will the angelfish outgrow this setup? If so how big of a tank will I need for its final size?. How long do I have to get a bigger tank? For food I've been feeding flakes but may do brine shrimp and black worms or fruit flies. Again once I get paid.

It depends more on the water depth, angels being tall fish. For the casual fishkeeper a 20 is pretty tight, I wouldn't go with anything less than a 29, you get a couple more inches of water depth, and a bit more capacity for tankmates. Traditionally angel breeders have been using 20h tanks for pairs for many years, 16" of water depth with no substrate. I've been using 29's for pairs, that extra depth helps, especially with veils.

A 20h with substrate cuts that water depth, you end up with ventrals trailing on the bottom, leaving an opening for infection. You've got 4, maybe 6 months until a deeper tank is needed, I'd guess a properly raised angel at that size to be 8-12 weeks old.

My dad has an unused. 53 gallon acirlic in our basement I will see if I can get the tank from him when the time comes. Maybe to be fair to him (and keep the number of tanks in our house down to a reasonable 1) I'll give him the 20 once marbelloh makes the move.

Right now things are going well, marbelloh is eating and acting great I change the water on wensday.

yeah a bigger tank yo 53 gallon would be nice for em. :) my pair I have in my 55 seem to be very happy and always begging for food. angels need something like 10 gallons of water per fish and a taller tank.

he should be happy in the larger tank. They really like plants. Like amazon swords. For mine I like to give different foods each day and they enjoy that alot. They seem to be aggressive during feeding time..Not to other fish but the food itself lol. They enjoy they smaller brine shrimp(mine arent full grown either...jusy about 2 inches) , mysis shrimp(Hikari sells this frozen) and all types of higher quality pellets and flakes every once in a while. Another thing they love is zucchini...I cut it into stalks freeeze it the thaw it in tank water and they nibble on it all day.

blood worms are also a great food for angelfish. i also feed mine the hikari brine shrimp, along with blood worms and tetra color plus flake food.

How often are you supposed to change the water in a 20 gallon tank for 1 juvenile angel ? I changed 50 to 60% of the water once a week is that too much?

Also how often do you feed them, I give mine 2 meals in the morning 1 at night.

I can't say for water changes.. maybe 30-50% /week? Best thing to do is test once a week or even more often when you are feeling unsure of your perams. If perams are off then do more changes till you get it stable.
I feed mine twice a day as well just so they don't destroy my plants I keep a veggie of some kind in all day for grazing. Pretty much all my community loves that

50% weekly is plenty for that fish & that tank. Feeding 3 times daily is good at that size/age, after a few months cut it back to twice daily.
