New African Dwarf Frogs

Last night I purchased two African Dwarf Frogs from my LFS. They are in our 20 gallon long planted community tank and seem to be adjusting well. They are so much fun to watch.

I am a bit concerned about how to keep them fed. I ordered some HBH frog bites which should arrive in a few days. This morning I soaked some freeze-dried bloodworms and with tweezers got them both to take these. My LFS said they'd eat fish flakes that fell to the bottom, but after some research it seems they probably need more than that.

I'll head back to the LFS later today and see if they have frozen bloodworms, but any other feeding suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

For starters, ADFs have very poor eyesight, and hunt their food via smell. They will eat flakes, mine actually seems to prefer them (I have had her for almost 2 years). Freeze-dried Bloodworms, or frozen, work nicely, but it takes them a little while to find their food. I feed mine ReptoMin Frog in addition to tropical flakes and f.d bloodworms...I have never seen my ADF, Bella, eat the Reptomin (it sinks) but I havent found any leftovers of it either. I HAVE witnessed her eating bloodworms and flakes (for whatever reason she likes the larger red flakes that are in the Tetra Tropical Flake mix).

It is also thought that ADFs dont eat every day, then again, some do. The reason it is important to include a food made for ADFs in their diet is for the calcium supply. ReptoMin Frog is a top recommendation for their staple food due to the calcium it has.

ADFs will also eat other types of worms as well as small fish (such as fry and smaller neons), as well as any type of meaty live food that will sink, as they tend to prefer to eat on the bottom. Although mine often comes to the top to eat f.d bloodworms with the betta she is housed with.

If you have any ADF questions, just let me know, I would be happy to help if you ever need it. Congrats on your new ADFs, they are wonderful aquatic creatures.
