New 28 gallon tank smells...

Our new tank has been set up to house some fish from another tank but after a few days it has an lemon smell to it. Any ideas why this might be?

I have, two live plants (fern, Anubius), rose quarts, filter, heater and waiting for the water to look better before I put the fish in.

My husbands hobby my new subject to study.... it's an animal so I do it with love.

I not sure what can be causing this (not an expert), but I beleive you can solve this by adding a carbon filter pad or carbon pellets to your filter media. The main use for carbon in aquariums is to control the smell of your water and filter out medications that may have been added to the water.

Yes I put a new one in this morning (new filter). I guess I could give it a little longer.

just remember that you need to wait until the water perameters are right, not just that it 'looks' right

A lemon smell??? You didn't use any kind of soap or cleaner in the tank before setting it up did you?

LOL I know wierd... no lemon scent prior and no lemon cleaning supplies used on it. It is warmer than usual as I am trying to figure out the heater. It sits at 28 degrees celsius and I am trying to get the temp down.
