neon tetra tank buddies

I have this posted on another forum but I wanted some more opinions. The tank is a 20g long and I will be dropping the head n tail tetras before adding the new fish. I'm trying to keep the fish around the same size as the neons.

fish
6 head n tails
8 neon tetras
2 corys "picking up 2-3 more"

plants
java moss
java fern
ludwigia repens
anubias nana
microsword
giant hygro

I was going to put 10 black neons and 10 neon tetras or 15-20 neon tetras.

I wouldn't do that many neons in a 20 gallon tank, and I wouldn't mix the regular neons with the black ones if they are in a small tank together.. the blacks can get nippy, even if schooled.

There are actually a lot of options compatible with neon tetras if you don't overstock/crowd them and the neons have a good size school of 8 - 10. Considering the size of the tank, maybe you would consider something like the emerald rasbora? or rasbora espei (harlequin)? White clouds and gold white clouds are also quite beautiful to mix with neons, and the white clouds will school nicely if there are 5 - 7 of them.

In a 20 gallon tank, even fish of this size, I would stop at 15 fish max.

Considering you are re-homing the head and tail light tetra's and adding a couple ,three cory'
s,, I might add another ten neon's were it me and call it good.
I would keep the fish mentioned at around 75 degree's F and possibly feeed the cory's at night after lights off to help lessen competition at feeding time.Just my two cent's.
Maybe after the tank was a few month's old ,I might add three or four otocinclus or perhaps a LDA 25 Pitbull pleco, or perhaps a farlowella.

The most important medication in your fish medicine cabinet is.. Clean water.
