well thank you to all who replied... based on the talk here and a bit of research on the various fish and availability i think as i begin to work this build it will be 6-8 tiger barbs and perhaps 5-6 corries..... unless any one chimes in has any more ideas......

I like the idea of a cichlid set up. What about shell dwellers? Rams and dwarf butterfly cichlids? Puffers?

saw an add for free convicts yesterday and almost thought about them but they get a bit large so i would only be able to house two comfortably... and looking at dwarfs around here (rams included) for a few weeks and they are either crazy expensive or i dont really find them appealing.... looked up puffers and first can rally get me hands on them easily and then i dont think my water would be good for them here with out crazy adjustments and as i have so many projects starting up i want to keep the "show" tank as easy to maintain as possible.... i know i am a picky person and a pain in the back side..........

What's your water? Puffers are very tolerant of pH. It's just bad water quality is that distressing to them, as with it is for all fish. Did you check out the shell dwellers?

One of these guys: Lamprologus ocellatus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Where you can buy them: Lamprologus ocellatus - Google Product Search

Just a suggestion. They don't get real big and would be the perfect species set-up
