Need some help with tank

Hi all, i am getting back into aquariums. I just got one of my old tanks back from my uncle, and cant remember for the life of me how big it is. Its dimensions are 47.5" x 12" x x19.5 ". Can anyone please convert that to gallons for me. Also, my uncle was not using the tank, and it does not have the top or any of the other equipment. Can you guys brush me up on what i need and where would be a good place to look for equipment.

Thank you very much

Robert

I buy a lot of used aquariums, so this little online aquarium calculator has been a lifesaver for me. According to it, your tank is right at about 48 gallons, but I put guesses in for wall thickness and substrate depth. It also gives a lot of other handy info like tank weight and so forth. Hope it helps!

Thanks for the reply. What are some quality brand heater and filters? Also, any advice on lighting and where to find a hood?

Thanks

It will be worth reading some threads in this forum section.

Do you have plans to make your tank planted? An open-topped tank may be nice but the lighting may need to hang on the beam instead. Floating plants often look nice in an open-topped tank.

Welcome to Fishforum.com, Robert.
