I have a feeling its the latex from the bands! The question is, do I do a massive water change or throughly clean everything in fresh water and re-cycle the tank.
Sorry to hear about your losses :( But you won't have to re-cycle the tank. If your tank was already established then you already have a bacterial colony present in your filter and on your substrate. If I were you I would simply remove the source of latex and do a massive water change. After that I would restock my tank with some fish asap before the bacteria colonies run out of food. Goodluck!
