Need Help and advice.

Hi, I recently set up a 60g tank and due to a "leaning" emergency I had to empty and start over.
I used tap water mixed with 10g of established aquarium water so it has yet to cycle.

The thing is I have a pleco in there along with what petsmart refers to as a Spotted African Leaf fish.
Both are doing well and I test water every day and do water changes as needed until tank has cycled.
Will this be ok or do I need to do something else?

Also, I am not sure if I want to get more leafs or mix different fish.
Thoughts?

Hello and Welcome to the forum!!!

WHat kind of pleco is it? if it's a common pleco, it'll outgrow 60g tank...so bear in mind....

You're in the middle of a cycle...I wouldn't add anymore fish if I were you. The waste from the pleco as well as excess food should provide enough ammonia your tank needs to establish itself...

You're correct along the lines of thinking that test for ammonia and do to partial water changes (20-30%) as needed to keep them in check....once both your nitrites and ammonia test zero for about 48 hours..you're should be established.....when this is done, check your nitrate level as it will probably be sky high due to all the ammonia in your tank....I'd do a huge (75%) water change and you should be set.

What in the kH and pH of your water....some fish prefer to be in a certain pH and that'll help you narrow down what fish you can keep...

a few questions:
1. What kind of filter are you running?
2. Temp of tank?
3. Are you using a liquid test kit or dip strips? (if you're using dip strips, ditch them)

Others will be along to comment, but again, welcome!

It is a common pleco.
What are my options here?
I have had him for 2-3 years and he is around 5 inches long.
Is it better to bring him back?

* kh is 240 - ph is 8.0

a few questions:
1. What kind of filter are you running?
* I run two - aqua-clear 30 and Fluvall U4
2. Temp of tank?
78 degress
3. Are you using a liquid test kit or dip strips? (if you're using dip strips, ditch them)
Strips suck. I found that you could use 2 strips from same bottle and test at same time and get completely different results. I have the API master test kit and like it.
