Well - the original question on this post is moot as there are no more mollies in this tank and the 4 otto cats are stuffed in the 14g tank now competing with 10bazillion snail babies - I know this is not the best place for them - the difference between thriving and surviving.

I feed the algae wafers and blanched veggies - till I can come up with a better alternative.

My otos love spinach. Didn't see that anyone mentioned that prior.
