Oh Thank God in Heaven that I am not alone in my stupidiity. I feel much better now, thanks everyone. :) Well, not so much better when I look back at my newish fish tank and see the big melted spot on the hood. :( It is going to have to stay like that for a little while because I am OUT OF MONEY for fish for awhile. Ugh!

Had to add: I don't think I am ready to try a glass hood. If I melt plastic just imagine the damage I can do with glass. I like the idea of the lamp over the tank. I am going to keep my eyes out for one with a reading bulb that points down.

I then got to drain the tank in order to try and fish all the pieces of glass out. Ended up removing the substrate completely to ensure I had not missed any glass pieces.

Just a few months ago? 1077, this post by you reminds me to be more careful. If something like this can happen to you, a person with soooo many more years experience than I have, then yikes, I'm doomed for!

If you don't stand up for something you'll fall for anything...

Definately the floor lamp is the way to go.

The most important medication in your fish medicine cabinet is.. Clean water.

I have an under shelf LED light - it's like a foot long strip with several LED lights in it - for say under a kitchen cabinet - so you can make a snack at night without having to turn the main light on

I plan on attaching that to the shelf above my tank

I got mine at Lowes for like $20 - and being LED it will last forever

That is a good idea as well Brandelion but I am not sure I can put a shelf above my tank. My tank is so deep that I actually have to stand up on a chair or ladder and reach down into the tank. That generally means my body is sort of hanging over it. Next time, I want a tank that isn't quite so deep. Another live and learn moment. lol
