My Barrel Pond

About 9 months ago I used a half whiskey barrel to start a small pond in my backyard. I got the barrel from Home Depot so it needed to be cleaned out and soaked before I could use it for fish. I added all the photos I have of how the set up went to my photo album here on the forum. Here's the link: http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/m...rel-pond-1597/

If any of you have any questions about setting up one of your own please do not hesitate to ask!

That's very lovely, nice work. I have thought about something like this, but unfortunately I have raccoon in my neighbourhood, and they decimate my pond every summer, even though I have not had fish in it for several years. Any water source becomes a magnet, especially when a female has a couple of kits. They also love to eat those plants [found that out when I had them along with a group of common goldfish in my pond].

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]

That's so nice! I'll have to check out your link and see if it's something easy enough that even I can make. (Pretty challenged in that area!)

If you don't stand up for something you'll fall for anything...

Its very pretty my husband has plans to build a screened in porch this year maybe I will try it and put it on there. I would have the same problem with the raccoons as Byron if I try to do it with out the screened in porch. Do you think it would be okay to put a heater in it during the winter to keep it from freezing?

Kindest Regards,
Amanda

Keeping fish its not a hobby it is a passion!

55 gallon, 44 gallon, one 20 gallon tank, three 10 gallon tanks, and a 2.5 gallon all with real plants.

I have MTS and there is no cure.

If you have somewhere you can plug a heater in you could put one in easily. Its only about 35 gallons so you can use a regualr aquarium heater, just make sure to get a thermometer so you can keep an eye on the temperature. Goldfish dont like warm water so keep it under 70 degrees.

It's very easy to set up you just need patience. It takes longer to set up than a regular aquarium (about 2-3 months)
