How big is the new tank? If it's another 55g, I wouldn't get an oscar as it will get too large for a 55g. Because of the adult length of the fish (not to mention its waste output) an oscar should really be in a 75g tank or larger. If you like the personality of the rowdier American cichlids, I'd steer you toward something that stays small enough to be kept in a 55g permanently like a jack dempsey or green terror.

I think the chemicals used in my tank by the previous owner has made things difficult for me to maintain my tank now - the two tanks I have kept with nothing but water/tap water conditioners have healthy happy fish.

tbh mate i just bought a new tank put decor in filter 2 heaters a air pump and put in "tapwater safe" stured in left for bout 1hr and move fish from other tank and if u look at my tank i have a few fish and they r perfect health happy and curious about there new enviroment if u want any advice add my msn if you have (paddon0@msn.com) and if any1 is a expert in 8 figure puffer fish and dwarf puffer plz add ad would like advice
