I'm going to be moving all of my plants and fish from an established 29 gallon tank into a new 55 gallon tank. Filter, driftwood, plants, etc. will all be going from the 29 gallon into the new 55.

I will be changing the substrate from gravel to sand so the substrate will NOT be transferred into the new tank.

Should I be worried about a mini cycle or an ammonia spike since I will have a new substrate?

What da ya guys think?

Thanks

I've upgraded tanks and swapped substrates and all that - never had a problem. I dosed with prime for a few days as a precaution and fasted the fish. I do suggest that you fast the fish for a few days after you do everything - there's no need to add to the bioload while your tank is playing catch up. Minicycles don't last long - don't feed, dose with Prime (or similar product) and throw in a water change or two and it'll all be past you in no time.
