Missing Fish.

You know the luck I'm having with fish right now just isn't good. At this rate, the fish will start an intervention and just refuse to let me purchase them from the Pet Store.

I dont know what I'm doing wrong...

I had 4 Fish to begin with. 2 Danio's and 2 other little fish. (similar to Danio's but slightly smaller)..

1 Fish died because it got stuck in the grass (or well thats where I found it)
and the other fish I couldn't find. I checked the Gravel, the cave everywhere; but could not find it.

2 days later, come back into the office and now another Danio has died - or gone missing. I literally cannot find it. Either someone is sneaking into the office at work and stealing my fish or its being abducted... HELP

So now I have only 1 Danio left :(

Stupid Question, but my knowledge of fish obviously isn't fantastic... Can fish eat other fish?

Glad you found it, but you're not sure what happened to the other two - or what the other fish are?

Have you cycled the tank, and have you taken any water readings recently?

Also, do you have a picture of the smaller fish and we can try to help ID them for you? :)

I'm waiting to get paid and then i'm going to buy a Water Tester.

I did clean the tank (took 1/3 of water out and cleaned it using a Siphon Pump thing - it sucks the gunk out of the rocks and water).. and replaced that with a 1/3 of new water with chemicals etc..

Still couldn't find the fish during the clean. The other 2 fish still seem happy so i think that was my first proper water change.

[x] How do you guys clean the bottom of the tank and the gunk out without taking too much water out?

[x] If you do a Water Test and the PH is out or over, how do you neutralise it? do you just buy some products that do this?

Dip net also works.

Not chemicals. To lower pH, use peat, driftwood or ketapang leaves. Increasing pH is done by use of crushed oyster shells and calcerous rocks.
Chemicals are just a work of the devil. By the time the effects are worn off, the pH swings back to its usual level. Such swings can harm and even kill your fish.

what are your ph levels, danios have been bred in aquariums for so long that they can stand almost any ph levels in aquariums (5.0-8.5)

danios are known fin nippers in small groups, they might have stressed the one in the grass to death? just a theory.

well im glad to hear you found your fish. We went through a similar thing when we started fishkeeping. Except it was a frog that was eating them.

Yeah as I said, I'm getting paid tomorrow, so I'll go out and buy myself a PH Tester.

I've noticed the other Danio seems to be hiding a lot, and not swimming with the other one. It only comes out everynow and then. Would that mean anything?

Once I found out the PH levels, i'll post it here.
