I haven't done this before so I can't really offer any advice. However, I'm interested in doing something similar so let us know how it goes!

okay, ill put updates, im contiplating using my 10 w a sweet male paradise fish in there for it or just buying a 10 or 20 gallon once i get sum money, and then filtration, i need something that can handle the fish but wont kill the hydra dyfia and other micro organisms.

There's a user on this site, Redpaulhus who's set up a LOT of north american native biotopes...I'd recommend PM'ing him and asking him to chime in on this thread. He's real busy, hasn't been on much lately, but it's worth trying :)

I can say that gathering most wild fish, in most states, is illegal without a permit. Just something to be aware of. I think it's a little different if you gather from a private pond, but definitely try to avoid state parks and such.

The North American Native Fishes Association is also probably a good resource to check out.
