Mesh & moss 'substrate'

I have been considering a few different substrates for a couple of my tanks and have decided on moss grown on mesh. I would like to use plastic 'stiff' mesh - can I use any kind for this? How do I know which plastics are not suitable for an aquarium?

Also, which moss is it that is a nice bright green? I know it's not java moss, I'm not too good with my plants!

Thank you :)
