Mad! Think I got the wrong fish!

quick update - when I lived in Idaho I had 5 fish tanks going - sadly life happens and I've moved.

I am down to one 29 gallon tank. Its been established over a year with two goldfish (since moved out to a pond since they grow and need the room!)

So I planted my tank (yay) and got 9 Neon tetra, 9 Glolight Tetra (said the fish store guy) and one small angelfish (currently only quarter size - will be getting a 60 gal tall tank soon!).

I asked for glolights and were charged for glolights, but I swear they are White Cloud Minnows (they have the red tails and fins) ... and frankly they are MEAN! I've never had either before so I didn't really know enough to tell the difference - just wanted small fish for my small tank.

They bug my plants, bug my neons, bug my angel, (bug each other). I know they were "cheap" fish but really I don't want to recylce them into compost - and frankly the idea of trying to catch these fast little guys in a planted tank is just daunting too.

So I just sit here and scold them and tell my angel to grow really fast so she can eat them!

hi,
If you really want the fish out, its easy to build a trap. Cut the top off of a 2 liter bottle and turn the top upside down so that it fits into the bottom section like a funnel. Put food in the bottom section and insert the top that you cut off--they should fit together tightly enough so it wont come apart when you put it in the fishtank. you might have to put gravel/ stones in the bottle to keep it from floating.

The fish can swim into the funnel to get the food, but its a lot harder for them to find their way out. Ive retrieved fish this way many times, but it does sometimes require patience. its a good way to get fish that are too fast to catch easily, or if you have lots of plants or stone caves.
Good luck!
