Location of tank

I've just set up a new aquarium and this may sound like a silly question but how far from the TV should a tank be put?

how ever far you wish. i actually have my plazma just a few inches away from mine. i have a very small room. doesnt help having two 55 gal aquarium n stands in there. just make sure all the wires and any filter hoses have a drip loop in them. i also installed a special outlet that is used for all my aquarium power supplies. it trips a breaker inside that trips if water gets in it. its code for many states to have these near water. ie sinks, bath tubs, and such. i did i just to be safe.

Thanks for that. I think I worded the question wrong, I'm concerned that the noise from the TV might stress the fish but I guess if yours is only a few inches away then it isn't a problem.

Mine is a couple of feet from the LCD TV and has been there from day one. Some ppl say the sound from the TV disturbs the fish but I haven't seen anything .I imagine that if the tank had been in a less noisy location and then move to a nosier location it might disturb them. I live in a one bedroom (approx. 600 sq ft) and if I move the tank any where else it would have to be in my bed, there isn't any room elsewhere.

Nobody's life, liberty and happiness are safe when Congress is in session. Hallyx kindly reminded me that this statement is attributed to Mark Twain. Even more pertinent today then when he said it.

Yeah as avraptorhal said. Doesn't bother my fish at all.

More traffic (people walking close) moving in front and around the tank would be more disturbing to the fish then the sound of the TV. Not saying this the case here or way y'all have the tanks but thats something I have always heard and read. Best place is a "fish room" but most of us (including me) don't have that option. Wish I did! My tank is in the living room just across from the TV. The fish have always done fine.

I've got a small Marshall stack & a strat outside the fishroom. I've also built racks with power tools in there, with stocked tanks around me. If noise bothered them I'd have dead fish not breeding fish. Dunno, maybe my fish are a bunch of metalheads.
