Lighting

ok folks,i`ll try to keep this short.I have a 120 gal,60 inch tank, freshwater and no plants. As you may know,60 inch fixtures are hard to find so I bought a 48 inch and 2 aquarium lights at Home Depot.Seems to me both ends of the tank are a little dark. The fixture is to be housed in a hood I constructed.I guess my question is there a 48 inch I can buy that will light this up,or just give me some direction. Thanks

If the tubes are 48-inch, and two of them, you have plenty of light, especially without plants. I have this over my 5-foot 115g. It is heavily planted, and has done well for 15+ years.

Without plants, I would even consider a single 48-inch tube. The more light, the more algae, though again without plants that is not really an issue. And algae will handle a lot of nutrients. More important is the brightness on the fish. This does matter, depending upon the fish. A brightly-lit tank, and one with no "cover" as plants would provide, can be very stressful to many fish species.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business.
