Largest Fish for a 20 Gallon?

Hi, I have a 20 gallon that currently has no fish in it, so I wanted to get one, and ONLY one 8).
I only want one because i want it to be loyal. I also want it to be fairly large and visible to me.
Any suggestions?

what ever you decide on, i would make sure it gets no bigger than 4 inches at maturity..............anything larger in a 20 gallon will not do well on a longterm basis...........some type or african mbuna cichlid......there are many types and colorful fish available, and 1 by themselves in a 20 gallon would work...........These are vey aggressive fish and adding a tank mate later, probably wont work in your tank size.......
