Completely unawares, too. I was checking my small tank this morning - I always stare into them for a while after I turn the lights on, do a head count, make sure nothing's happened over night, that kind of thing, and what do I see hiding behind the filter uptake?

The smallest Von Rio Tetra I've ever seen. He would fit in my fingernail. I stared at him for a while, not really believing what I was seeing, but sure enough, he's just hanging out there. I can't believe I missed the egg laying and stuff!

Now I'm wondering if any more survived. I do have a pretty good clump of peacock moss in there. But would my shrimp eat the eggs?

Oh, wow! Congratulations - that is really neat! I'm not so sure about such things, but I've heard of people using shrimp to help hatch eggs, because they clean them and keep them fungus free and such. I could be wrong, but I'd think it would be more likely for you to lose eggs to mom and pop than the shrimps. You may want to hold onto any water you do during your next water change - juuuuuuust in case there are any eggs in there :) This has happened to my friend in the past, and she got quite a few baby fish that would otherwise have gone down the drain.

Good luck over there - and congrats!

Here he is in all his glory! Excuse the plants stuck to the filter uptake behind him.

Congrats!

The odds are like winning the lottery of fry surviving in a community tank without intervention, but every so often nature finds a way

S/he looks big enough now that he has a decent chance of making it to adulthood!
