Hi all,
I just started a 10 gallon shrimp tank, and i bought 22 RCS from aquabids. However, i noticed that a couple of the shrimp weren't like the others, ie, they weren't red, they were more clear. I assumed they weren't RCS. I noticed that one of these different shrimp was pregnant, which was very different than the RCS that was pregnant. Can anyone identify this shrimp and tell me what i have? So far the RCS and mysterious shrimp have been getting along just fine, so i'm not too concerned.

Well, with the RCS, i noticed that one of them had a orange/ yellow sac "in" it's back, which i assumed were the eggs. I don'y know if you can tell in this photo, but the eggs are big black dots underneath it.

one of my friends also said it wasn't likely a ghost shrimp either. I can get a better photo once i get my other camera, but that may take a day or two.

It looks to be a Yellow shrimp. It looks Yellow in the pciture you posted. I could be wrong . It does not look like a Amano as I have them with my Red cherry shrimp and they are much bigger in size almost doubled same goes for Ghost shrimps much bigger in size.Shrimps form the same family can not be kept with Red cherry shrimps as they can interbreed and produce a ugly brown color which is the wild color in the offspring.

Here is a good web-site about dwarf shrimps and snails. It is everything you wanted to know and more. It is a good web-site to save under your favorites.

Thanks for the link. The shrimp may look yellow because of the camera i was using. I'll try taking another picture in the morning with the sun light, maybe that will help.
Also, the yellow shrimp look as if their eggs are also yellow. The eggs on these shrimp are black, which kind of points to ghost shrimp, but many people don't think.

I noticed the egg color also as the yellow has a whitish egg. Don't you think the photos of the shrimps are great. It's hard taking picture of something so small. Get a magnifying glass as Staples. I have 2 that I use to see the baby fish and shrimps better. It also comes in handy when you have to look at a fish for health issues.
Here's a picture of my Red cherry shrimps.

At first it does look like a male RCS but it does have eggs so it is not. Then I saw Eileens RCS then went back up to look and you can really see the yellow undertones..it does look like a yellow shrimp.

Great shade of algae growth Eileen! Looks so nice and natural...I can't keep algae in my tanks too many algae eaters..:)

This is not the same exact shrimp in the previous picture, but i think it's the same type. Once the pregnant one comes out from hiding again, i can try to snap it's photo.
Thanks for everyone's help.

The only reason why i don't think it's a Yellow Shrimp is because the eggs are black.

I also e-mailed the person who sold me the shrimp asking if there was a mistake or something, asking for his help in identifying the shrimp. He hasn't replied and i'm afraid he won't because he may think i'll ask for a refund or something.

This may be a better photo, although it's not of the pregnant one. Actually, looking though some more photos of yellow shrimps (ones that aren't ideally yellow), i think you're right, they look very similar. Thanks for your help! Hopefully i won't have too many of those ugly brown babies.
