Ideas for my 50 gallon- Input appreciated.

Alrighty, as anyone who's read my posts lately knows, I'm getting a 50 gallon in about a week.

I was thinking about tetras, and that would be nice.. but now I'm playing around with the idea of a shrimp farm.

Yellow shrimp, some bee shrimp (red orchids if I can find them! ), and maybe some other species thats compatable with both. Saves room for future thai micro crabs. Eh, thailand is southeast asia.

Also, it seems southeast asian shrimp like lower PH water, even if only for breeding.
Would probably go with the Diana Walstead technique like I did with my 5G, and just fool around with the lighting before I get a good balance.
(no good windows)

Would it be a waste?
I feel like it kinda is because I have 2 10 gallon tanks that are completely empty and in storage I could set up as shrimp farms.... And use the 50G for tetras like I was originally planning...

i would go with the 10 gallons as shrimp farms and the 50 as a tetra house!

Subject: Larry LaPrise dead at 93

With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person, which almost went unnoticed last week.

Larry LaPrise, the man that wrote "The Hokey Pokey" died peacefully at the age of 93. The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin. They put his left leg in. And then the trouble started.

What are your pH and hardness, again? Also, what are the dimensions of the tank?

I agree with teddyzaper. You could do some bigger groups of tetras in the 50 that would look nice.I'm trying to decide what to do with my 50g as well.Every time I think I have my mind made up I see something else I like!

id use the small tanks for the shrimp, and make the 50 an awsome planted tetra tank.

when you set up a new tank, hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor, that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.
