I'm going to keep this thread updated on what's going in my tank.

When I left for class this afternoon, I had a lot of detritus at the bottom of the tank. I filled it back up today, left everyone in the 10 gallon, will be doing a water change when I get home. I did put some clarify in so maybe that's what isn't getting sucked up. Bugger. I'll probably need a bigger/another filter on it.

I'll be updating this when my brother sends me a pic of the tank about 5.

I'm a spaz...

Murky water will not harm fish. The wild brethren of a lot of the fish we keep swim in murky waters and have survived that way for a long time. The Amazon is a very murky river for example, but still home to things like discus and neon's. When you change substrate things get cloudy. When I swapped substrates on my 55gal, the 100lb of eco-complete literally reduced visibility to 2". You could only see fish right up against the glass. It takes time for water to clear. I serviced my canister filter daily to remove the silt, cuz that stuff can kill a filter quickly. I think after 3 days I did a big water change to get rid of the last of the cloudiness. Generally the finer the substrate the easier it is to stay suspended.

Like bryon also mentioned the use of clarifier products is not needed nor recommended, declor IMO is the only product you need to add to a regular tank.

.... I'm probably drunk.

This is how I lurk
