I'm getting myself a 75gal! Yipee! Ideas?

OK, so I have decided that I want a 4ft. I have a great piece of furniture which will easily hold it, and it will be in a fantastic position for viewing from all angles. The tank I am looking at measures 4ft x 18in wide x 20in high.

Now, as far as stocking, I'm throwing around some ideas, but would love some input! There are 2 fish that are definitely going to be going into it - a gold severum and a blue acara. I already have the sev and acara (they are babies right now, and extremely sweet!).

I was thinking of a group of maybe 5 festivums, 3 bristlenose plecos OR 3 clown plecos (depending on which one I can afford when the time comes), and a group of say 10 black ruby barbs with my gold severum and blue acara.

I really like gourami's and clown loaches. Oh what can I say - I love them all! LOL THIS is why I need some help.

The tank will be quite heavily aquascaped with rock, driftwood, plants etc etc. If you look at my pics of my 40gal, you'll see what I mean.

I'm not in a big rush on this project (oh who am I kidding - yes I am! But I will force myself to take it slow) so come on guys! Thinking caps on!

Ah, the serenity......nothing more relaxing or beautiful to look at than fish gliding around their tank......

Well, I decided that I'm going for a custom built :)

Costs more, but oh well! It's 100gal. :)

So things are coming along slowly - which is a good thing.

I should have the tank fairly soon and then the fun begins! I am forcing myself to be patient and I think my head is going to explode with all my reading lol

How exciting! Wish I had another big tank to look forward to but I'm completely maxed out. Good luck with your stocking choices and keep us posted.

Animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.

I have kept Severums with Blue acara with no issues , but if the tank is to be planted,I would want to ensure that the plants were hardy plants such as Java Fern,Anubias, and Sword plants.
Acaras will uproot the smaller palnts and the Severums will enjoy snacking on small leafed palants in my expieriences with them.
I believe the Festivums would enjoy a planted tank and are said not to bother them much, but are far too placid and peaceful for BlueAcara and possibly the Severum.
Clown loaches would be fine for some time in this tank, but they too like to root around in the substrate and sturdy plants I should think would be necessary. They also get along with Severums and Blue acara's in my expieriences with them.
Clown loaches appreciate Oxygen rich water and moderate current in the aquarium ,and this could be achieved with a powerhead or two along with filter suited for the tanks volume.
I recently placed an Eheim 2217 on an 80 gallon tank and am pleased with it so far.
Bristlenose Pleco would be a good fit for this tank, But older Males often tussle with other males but if enough areas of driftwood and or caves were present, they may co-exist.Hard to sex these fish unless they are adult size.
Like the Clown loaches, they too appreciate similar decor and a little water movement.
I have a group of Black Ruby barbs and they are in my view quite pretty. They are herbivorus in large part, and like the clown loaches, and Bristlenose, require regular portions of vegetable matter (IE) spirulina pellets or flake, and perhaps alage wafers if you wish for them to remain healthy and to be less destructive with regards to plants but .. If the plants are tough sturdy such as those mentioned,, then I should think less damage will occur.
Research the preferred habitat of the fish and this will help loads in trying to create a suitable hardscape, plants that would do well,, and proper foods. Hope some of this helps.

The most important medication in your fish medicine cabinet is.. Clean water.
