doesnt get much better then that :D just make sure you let your tank cycle before rushing to put fish it it. if you dont know what "cycling a tank" is there are forum post that are very educational about it. happy fishing and enjoy your new free tank :)
i suggest you now use your 15g for quarentine tank, hospital tank or plant tank!! yay :D just make sure its one and not all three.. nothings worse then taking care of new, sick, plants lol

I think a 40-50 gal bowfront is probably a 46 gallon bowfront. Very nice tank. The bowfronts are generally much more expensive than similarly sized rectangular tanks. I say go for it for sure, as a tank like that would cost you a small fortune new. Even if you don't use it yourself, you can turn around and sell it.

What a deal. Go for it! It will be perfect for your angels (15 gallon would have been too small).

I just cleaned an 80 gal. tank that I bought used. I used vinegar and warm water and a clean brush along with a new sponge that had a green scrubbing surface on one side. Given that tank has set for a good while with no fish in it ? I would dump everything and start anew. when it becomes time to cycle your tank perhaps one of the lfs will give you some filter material or small amount of gravel from one of their tanks. That will speed up the maturing process a little. Good Luck. :)

id clean everything with a really really mild bleach solution and then rinse everything a whole lot to make sure all the bleach is gone. it will clean up everything in the there and practically sterilize it too so you know nothing from before will harm your fish.

I just got a 15 gallon from craigslist that is cycling right now. What I did was put it (empty of anything that is not submersable) in my bath tub, and fill it up with a mild bleach solution. This will pretty much guarantee that nothing bad survives. I then used a tooth brush to scrub off the sides, and carefully scraped away mineral deposits on the edges with a razor (the only thing that I can find that works). Then comes the annoying part. Rinse, rinse, rinse, RINSE.... Your tank is much bigger, so you may have to bring it outside and use a hose, mine was small enough to rinse with the shower head. Have fun with your new tank :D ! What a great deal!!

A good tip to use when your cleaning with a bleach solution is to use a double portion of dechlorinator in the rinse water.

wooooaaaahhhhhh!!!! so yeah got the tank and its beautifuuulllllllllll
my dad helping me sand the finish off the stand to paint it black

so as i walked into the room the the tank was held in i was shocked to be greeated by this handsome guy

i was understandibly shocked as i was told there was no fish and about an inch of water. all i know is its an angel idk what kind he is... we named him sid
as i keept looking i realized there was nothing running in the tank... the lil trooper was in 67 degree water that was filthy with algae poop and a couple unidentified bones!!!!!!! i was totally shocked but pleasently suprised being as he is roughly palm sized this guy was totally lively andwe had a hard time getting him in a bucket haha so anyways i got the tank out and drianed and then took him home cleaned the tank and gravel plugged in the filter and heater and lo and behold!!! it all works and the tank as you can see looks great this is the tank as it stands now

i am heading to my lfs (who has offerd me 50$ for sid or a trade for the black veils but i think being as he has survived in the tank this long he should be able to live his life) now i dont know how old he is but i was told the tank was bought in 01 and he was gotten as a nickle sized baby 3 months after!!! if thats so then wow!!! but before anyone tears me a new one for putting him in water thats not cycled i know but i have no other place plus 20+ gallons are from my and my fathers tanks so its somewhat good. so hes my new fish and i plan on getting more stuff for the tank tommorw being as its kinda bare so yeah hes beautiful and whatnot and i am totally floored at the value i got remember i paid nothing for this i wish we could all find things like this . sans the stranded fish so im glad i rescued him so yeah wow
this is the tank halfway through setup

and my 2 tanks side by side
\
so yeah i amvery happy lol wat a shock

I wouldn't put that angel through the stress of the cycle. If you know someone down at the LFS, you could ask them if they'll hold the fish for you while you get the tank cycled. I realize he was in crummy conditions before, but a cycle could be even worse for him. Even if he survives it could cause permanent damage, so it's better to play it safe.

Wow, a free tank plus an angel!

Did you say your dad had a tank? If you can get some filter media from his tank it will help your cycle. Just using the water won't help much.

:? I'm confused you say you got water from Dad's Tanks? why not put Angel in Dad's tank? Are his fish too agressive? you could put divider in the tank if they are. Also some gravel and filter material from your Dad's tank would help your tank to cycle faster. Most of the beneficial bacteria needed for nitrification process are found in the filter material and the gravel. A cup of your Dad's gravel and some filter material put in your tank would speed the maturing of your tank.

yeah we got water from his tank i would put sid in there except hes about 10 times the size of anything else in there and would prob eat the fish that we have as far as getting media from my dads tank thats a no go he uses undergravel. ill see if i can get some from my lfs today. if nothing else i guess it may be possible to put sid in my15 and take the current 3 occupants out and put them in either the new tank or my dads tank till done. (they are 2 sparkling gouramis and a longfin cory. bought to cycle my 15) as i woke up this morning sid was at the front of the bow staring at me and is now swimming around his tank seemingly content and probably happy he can finally see where he is. :D and happy fish are a good thing i am heading to the lfs today to get stuff for his tank bc i did not wanna use the ... to putit nicely. biohazards that were in the tank with him before so i shall pick up some nice plastic plants till the tank is ready for live ones. any suggestions on habatat sid would like? caves? overhangs? bubblers? im not to sure on ginormus angelfsh playthings

Something to keep in mind, The beneficial bacteria needed for new tanks ,or any tank for that matter, grows on every thing in the tank. Decorations, wood, plants live or fake, on the glass as well as on the surface of gravel not just down in the gravel. Perhaps your dad,s tank has some material such as that? With that being said... Placing this material in ones tank does NOT mean that one can begin stocking the tank with fish. It merely helps to speed the growth of the bacteria and reduce the length of time needed for tank to begin maturing or to cycle. Fish should still be added SLOWLY so that bacteria can grow with the waste being produced by the fish.
