Question How many Small fish can I put in a 55gallon tank?

I might upgrade to a 55 gallon tank and wanted to know how many small fish I could put in the tank? I'm not going to get really any big fish, the biggest fish will either be a bristlenose Pleco (only grow to 3-4") or a redtail shark(can grow to 5"), all the other fish will be neon tetras, sunset platies, pristella tetras, 2 swordtails, and 4 mollies.... All I have to decide is how many of the smaller fish. I really like guppies, and want about 6 of them, so if anyone could tell me a general number of fish I could put in the 55 gallon tank... I know its not a small task, but I really want to know

Doesnt have to be exact, and I know the rule of thumb but tons of aquarist on the forum have replied to other threads that its just a rule of thumb for begginers, but that it really depends on the bioload.

You might wanna reconsider having the swordtails and mollies mixed in with guppies. They sometimes don't get along too well. If you still wanna:

7-8 guppies
4 mollies
2 swordtails
1 redtail shark / brislenose pleco

You could probably add a few more guppies or 1 more molly or swordtail. They are decent sized fish, growing up to 5 inches (13cm).

And oh ok got ya. AS I said, sometimes they don't get along haha.

redtails get bigger than 5 inches dont they? Remember that guppies, mollys, and swordtails are livebearers. Keep the stocking down to accommodate for the fry.
