How long to "seed" a sponge filter?

Does anyone have a best guess regarding how long is "long enough" to get a sponge filter's bacteria firmly established?

I want to get a new sponge filter's bacteria established before breaking an old tank down (old tank has a UG filter), I'm replacing with a larger tank. I'm going to set up the sponge filter in the old tank, add the powerhead and let it run. I'm putting the 40 gallon-rated Hydro-sponge Pro with a powehead in my current 29 gallon, eventually moving the sponge filter to a 40 gallon tank.

I don't want to rush it, but I also want to set up the new, larger tank ASAP!
I'm impatient......

We actually had this discussion the other day no one really replied, I always thought it was a month but I have no idea why I think that, no proof to support it. One of the other members said a week, a week seems short to me but it would be nice if it was. I'll be glad to see if anyone else has any ideas.
